Many of the older themes will no longer work with the new upgrade here:

Odyssey
subSilver
XP-Silver
Nice_Blue
Blue_Byu
PCTECH

and a few others.

We have done our best to remove these themes from your individual records. When you log in you will get the default theme and all the nice features that go along with it, such as the new forum, etc.

I was using Google Chrome, and it took me three attempts to login, today.
The first time I was told that the number I had entered was incorrect. There was a funny 6, but it looked like six, and not another figure.
The second time I was told that login info was incorrect. So, I retyped the password, as the username appeared to be correct.
Of course, every time a new authorization number is offered. This time, authorization was accepted. I understand the purpose of this authorization, but it is annoying to be at the whim of someone being "cute" with distorted numbers. It should not be that way.
By the way, I visit this site, at least twice daily, and I have had problem about once a week. Never like today.

It's "that way" for the purpose of disallowing auto-bots from persusing the site w/o authorization. In other words the "user" has to manually type in the number(s).

If you type in the correct number and you don't get authorized it could be:

1. mis-typed password
2. mis-typed username

If everything is correct and still not authorized then it's cookie-based on your system as well as form-fill issues. There have been no changes here.

It has nothing to do with being "cute", security is a huge issue. The only "number" in question is the 1 and the 7 at times.

UD,
your reply is exactly as I would have expected.
1. the unaccepted password had very readable numbers, with the exception of a number 6, which was so blurred that it could have been an eight. Unfortunately, one has no way to correct what I called "cuteness". I understand the security issue, and don't mind the continuous login, because automatic spamming is a real problem.
2. the username was presented correctly. Of course, there is no way to see what password is used, so I did not replace the username, but rather the password, and everything was cool.
I was not asked to enter another number, again, when I reentered the password.
No problem this morning.

Well, we switched the "captcha" graphic from small letters to large numbers so the uhhhh "older" generation such as myself should have no problems. Smile

BTW: If you're using Firefox you can magnify the screen including the numbers using CTRL++ or by CTRL + the scroll wheel on your mouse. That's what I do.

I don't remember any small letters, and the numbers are usually readable for me, but not always, when there is some shading and distortion. Am I of the "older" generation? I think so, at 77.
My problem may have been using Google Chrome, which may or may not have saved the info. I am using Seamonkey, now, and have had minor problems, offering three identical usernames, and no password. One has to be alert, at all times. I have never had any problem with my default, Firefox.

If you want to see "more confusing", see our test site:

http://www.netscapechampions.org and note the characters to type in. Smile

You got me beat by a year and a half. Sad

I checked the link given by UD, and I agree. It is, slightly, beastly. The letters are small, and there is, at least, one tricky one. Not that UFAQ does not have one, off and on. One has to keep eyes open, and stop and think. Today. I had a "3" which, at first glance could have been read an an "8".

I try to login there, no problem, but can't get past the "Netscape Champions - Terms of Use" no matter how many times I click on the continue button. Tried Netscape and Firefox. I'm on Linux, so no IE option. (Tried with no extensions also).

New registration has been disabled. The user database isn't the same as here either. It's just a "test site" so we're not taking users at the moment.
