I have to create an e-portfolio for a class using Composer. I've tried everything I know how to do to create links to local documents (images, video, other composer pages and Word files) but none of them will open on any computer but mine. Does anyone have any idea how to successfully create local links????
I've done the whole link--choose file---chose the file and it works fine on my comp but won't open on any other computer....
Help...please |

I read through the link you provided, but just don't see how to not make it point to my computer. To turn in the composer product im making i just have to zip the whole thing and email it to my professor. I'm not really publishing anything, if that makes a difference... |

Ok I understand now. In order for your prof to see your work you have to publish it to a common server for your prof to access. Otherwise, yes, you have to zip it up and send it.

So there is no common server so i was told by him just to zip it up and send it. So ive zipped up all the compose pages ive created as well as all the local documents ive linked, but the local documents still wont open on anyone elses computer. |

That is correct, local files on YOUR computer cannot be opened on someone else's computer as that is a security feature. You have to send the files along with the web pages so that the prof can access them by clicking on the links on the web pages. The files have to be in the same path pointed to by the links. Your prof should have no trouble doing that.

If it's only the files that are important rather than web pages then send just the files. |

For some reason he can't open any of them. The sites important as well. He is grading me on my ability to use Netscape Composer....obviously the grade isnt going to be all that fabulous...
Despite having everything in that zipped folder, none of the local documents will open from the links posted. |

Hard to help with just a "description" to go on. Do you have something somewhere that we could look at? Otherwise, the effort is futile.
Try Kompozer
http://kompozer.net/
It's based on the same source as the composer in Netscape 7. It's a lot more up to date and may be easier to use in your case. And it's FREE. |
