Just installed Thunderbird 3.1 but spell check does not work even though selected to do so as you type. Thought that a dictionary might be missing so downloaded the British English Dictionary. This turns out to be a file with a .xpi extension and this does want to run on my Windows XP Pro system so I can't install it. Any suggestions as to where I go from here to sort this out.
kind regards

xpi files are extensions (add-ons). Install it into TB as an extension.

I tried to reply earlier but it did not seem to get through. I'll try again and apologise if you get it twice.
Following your guidance I copied and pasted the British English Dictionary file from my downloads folder to the folder 'program files\mozilla thunderbird\extensions' and to 'ditto\xpi' for good measure. When I opened TB I was invited to install the dictionary. I did this and the spell check feature is now working.
I make this reply in the hope that it will be helpful to others that may have the same problem and also to say thank you for your swift 'on the ball' advice.
Kind regards

Note: Lot easier to save the xpi file to the desktop and then:
TOOLS => Addons => Install => locate the xpi file and click it. |
