I uninstalled TB3.0.3, and later after 3.1 came, I got rid of it.
Typically, I found out that hardly anything could be done while messages were being downloaded. I have eight accounts set up, and might as well go to lunch while new messages are downloaded. Also, deletion is slow, as every message must be marked read, before
being deleted.
The worst issue with 3.1, and the present 3.1.1 was the slowness of sending mail. Forget about sending any attachment, but even rather small messages were taking nearly two minutes, or timed out.
This issue is not with latest TB2.x.
I finally, got a hint at another newsgroup. A fellow told me to uncheck the "Check outgoing mail" in my AVG (antivirus program). And, it worked. It is possible that the slowness in receiving mail may, also, be due to the incoming mail checking, but I will put up with it.
Other than that, TB3.x is the same as 2.x, except for the annoying tabs ( but it is controllable). |

My Kaspersky AV exhibited the same thing as it was checking in/outgoing mail. I disabled that feature and all is back to normal. I keep forgetting that it is basically impossible to get infected with any malware, virus, etc. when using any Netscape/Thunderbird product. You have to really work hard to get infected and therefore there is no real need for an AV application to be involved with either mail product.

Agreed 100%, but it took me a while to figure that the AV was the cause of the slowdown. Everything is semi-cool now. I, still, don't like the way 3.x behaves, when compared to 2.x, when deleting mail, or trying to drag and drop into an e-mail in another folder. |
