How to Use Netscape Navigator Offline
Applies to: Navigator 3.0x and earlier (Communicator has built-in offline capabilities)
Operating Systems: Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT.Problem Symptoms: "How Do I Use Netscape Navigator Offline?"
Solutions:
Method 1
> The only way I seem to be able to view *.htm
> files is to have trumpet winsock running before
> I launch Netscape.Okay, here's what you do. Set your winsock to NOT auto dial in when loaded. It also helps if you have NO homepage or one that is only on your hard drive (with no links to counters, etc on other systems).
and from: Lester M. Levy, MD
You can set up trumpet winsock v2.1f, but make sure under dialler | options that the first line 'no auto logon' is checked. Place trumpet's tcpman.exe and winsock.dll in netscape directory. Double click on Netscape icon and it will bring up trumpet in minimized mode and then come up itself in local mode. If you want to go online, double click on trumpet icon first, and manually or with script logon.
Minimize and then double click on Netscape.
or
Setup trumpet for autologon. Double click on trumpet but cancel login before it dials (if you want to work offline). Then double click on Netscape. When you want to work online, just double click on netscape, and it will handle trumpet.
You can have a home page, but make sure that in options/gen preferences/appearances under 'startup' you have 'blank page' checked. This will avoid try to download an html. This is the setup for v2 beta 3. Similar in previous versions.
Method 2
If you are only going to work offline (locally) then you can get a file from netscape called mozock.dll from: ftp://ftp6.netscape.com/unsupported/windows/ which you rename to 'winsock.dll' and place in the netscape directory where netscape.exe exists. Double clicking on netscape icon should bring netscape up in local mode.

JPO Wonders: Does this still happen if you set "Blank Page" for your home page in options/gen preferences/appearances under 'startup' ?
